Wednesday Night and Saturday to J & P

Carl, Wayne M, Gary, Lars, Bugsy (for a while), Greg, and Bob R rode about 115 miles on Wednesday.  We went through Freeport, Decorah, Ridgeway, Cresco, Protovin, Spillville, Ft. Atkinson, Eldorado, Clermont, Postville, and back to Gus & Tony's in Waukon.  We went through a brief shower near Postville (part of the daily rain in the area), but overall it was a very good ride!

On Saturday, I plan to go down to the Open House at J & P in Anamosa.  From Anamosa I will continue my journey out to Denver taking as much of HWY 30 as I can.  It is the 100th anniversary of HWY 30 (The Lincoln Highway), the oldest coast-to-coast paved highway in the US.  I will be gone about two weeks, so you will have to have a new "ride captain" for the next two Wednesday nights.  I plan to leave from Casey's on Saturday morning at 9 AM, so if you want to ride along to Anamosa with me, you are welcome.

Here's some shots of the Wednesday Night Riders in Spillville for a rest stop.

Memorial Day with Christopher Columbus

The postponed and delayed Memorial Day ride and cookout finally happened.  Carl, Tom, Nancy, and Bob R rode about 80 miles on Sunday and stopped at Marquette to see the Nina and Pinta sailing ship replicas used by Christopher Columbus on his journeys.  We invited "Chris" to the cookout for brats, but he said he was happy with hardtack and wine!  Bob & Cathy and Chuck & Lois joined us later at the cookout.  We saw a lot of flood damage to cropland on the way, but we were really happy to hear that Howard was able to avoid damage at his store.  Some other stores downtown apparently didn't fare as well.  We still have some water seeping into our basement.  Hope to see everyone Wednesday night provided we don't get more rain!  Here's some shots of the group and the ships.

Christopher is admiring our bikes!

Tom says he could sail them with "no problems" as long as Carl was first mate.

25 PERCENT CHANCE =10 INCHES

I'm glad it wasn't 60 percent!!  Here's the plan for the day today.  We are going to have the cookout regardless.  In may be a cook-in!!  At 5:30 at Rotach's.  Actually we could have it in our basement and make it a pool party.  IF the weather is decent, I would like to leave from Casey's at 3 instead of 1 and go to Marquette and see the Nina and Pinta replica ships docked there.  Actually the river got so damn high that Christopher Columbus floated all the way over here from Spain!  After a short ride we can come back here and eat.  That's the plan for now.  Spread the word!!

FINALLY!!!

After over a month of rainy Wednesday nights, we finally got a beauty!!  After learning that Bob Zahn wasn't going to make it, we decided to head for the Dairy Queen in Boscobel.  Bob R., Gary, Meryle & Mary, Dennis & Marlene, Howard, Wayne & Sandy, Tom, and Dayton made the 120 mile round trip through Lansing, Ferryville, Lynxville, Steuben, Boscobel (home of the Gideon bible), Wauzeka, PDC, Monona, Luana, and back to Gus & Tony's.  It was probably the nicest night of the year so far.  Here's some shots of us at the DQ.

NICE FATHERS' DAY & UPCOMING RIDES

Mother Nature finally cooperated and we were able to take a ride on Fathers' Day to Norwegian Hollow Hideaway for a few goodies. Bob & Julie, Chuck & Lois, Meryle & Mary, and Bob Z took off for Purdy, WI about noon on Sunday.  We went about 120 miles round trip through Lansing, Rising Sun, Fargo, Liberty Pole, Viroqua, Bud, Purdy, West Prairie, Retreat, Red Mound, DeSoto, Lansing, Elon, and back home.  It was a beautiful day with good company and good food!  Here's a shot of the crew at the Hideaway.

We will try again Wednesday night, and don't forget that this Sunday, the 23rd, is our makeup ride from Memorial Day.  We will leave from Casey's at 1 PM and have a cookout at Rotach's about 5 O'Clock.  Spread the word!

ANOTHER RAINY WEDNESDAY--POSSIBLE FATHERS' DAY RIDE

Last Wednesday was rainy, but the "Lone Ranger" was able to put about 80 miles on that night.  Postville to Decorah to Spillville to Ossian and back to Waukon.  Only a few sprinkles coming into Waukon.  If it DOESN'T rain on Sunday (Fathers' Day), we plan to ride over to Norwegian Hollow Hideaway for an afternoon meal.  We will leave from Casey's at noon for anyone who wants to come along.  Spread the word!

"Listen to the Rhythm of the Falling Rain" is making my butt tired!!

Another Wednesday night rain!!  Maybe we should think about starting a boating group on Wednesday nights.  Try again next week!!  Hopefully we will see some of you at the Thunder in the Park this weekend.  I'll be the one holding my ears!!

Also, I'm pretty sure my new grandson is going to be a biker.  He's using this already!

WNR PARTICIPATES IN HOSPICE RIDE

Last Saturday four of our members rode in the Winn. Co. Hospice Ride.  Gary, Tom , Nancy, the Haberichter boys and Molly, and Bob R. rode in this charity event that went about 200 miles from Spillville to Ft. Atkinson, to Festina, to El Dorado, to Clermont, to Postville, and to Waukon Harley for lunch.  We then continued to New Albin, Caledonia, Houston, Harmony, and back to Spillville for more lunch and door prizes.  It was a well-planned event and most of us stayed dry.  If they continue to have this event, I'll put it on our ride calendar.  It's for a good cause!  Here's some photos.
