PERFECT LATE SUMMER EVENING RIDE

Twenty riders showed up at Casey's on a very pleasant Wednesday evening. With clear sunny skies and temps in the mid 70's Bernell & Kathy rolled in on their Spyder.  They were joined by Ron & Helen, Wayne & Sandy, Roger & Sue, Irv, and ChucK on trikes.  Bringing their bikes were Al, Howard, Chuckles, Lois, Jim D, Jim G, Dee, and Bob.  In the "support" convertible were Dale & Greg.

Our convoy departed Casey's parking lot and headed south out to HWY 9 and after a short jog turned south onto Forest Mills Road.  We cruised past the Gelo plantation and turned west onto Cherry Valley Road heading for Postville.  We passed through Postville and picked up HWY 18 heading east for a short sprint up to the Gunder Road and a turn south again.  We cruised through Gunder avoiding the rush hour and turned onto Agate Road making for Elgin.  Just outside of Elgin, we had a couple of deer cross our path.  I can't remember riding this road and not seeing deer at this location.

Coasting through Elgin, we picked up Golden Road and headed toward West Union.  Golden was an appropriate name for this road, since it was smooth as glass and offered some pretty scenery and sweeping curves.  Golden took us back to HWY 18 and we rolled into the Casey's in West Union for a break.  The price of gas was 11 cents cheaper there than the Casey's in Waukon.  GO FIGURE!!

THE REST OF THE CREW DISMOUNTS

After our break, we passed through West Union and turned north onto HWY 150.  This stretch of highway also offers some scenic views, and the sun was no longer in our eyes.  We followed HWY 150 up to Festina and turned east onto CR B32 and cruised into Ossian.  At the north edge of Ossian, we found Sand Road and headed east again over to Centennial Road where we turned north and followed it up to HWY 9.  There our Winneshiek riders turned west toward Decorah, while the rest of us turned east.  We stayed on HWY 9 until we came to West Ridge Road and turned north up to Old Stage Road.  Turning east on Old Stage, we made our way into Waukon and the City Club for eats.  I had 90 miles on the Wing at that point.  It's too bad that such a nice night had to be so short of daylight, but we did make the most of it!

UPCOMING RIDES

NEXT MONDAY, THE 6TH, IS OUR ANNUAL LABOR DAY "DOUBLE DIP" ICE CREAM RUN.  We travel out of town for a dip of ice cream and return to Homestead Dairy in Waukon for our second dip.  We will depart Casey's at 1 PM that day.  EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

NEXT WEDNESDAY the plan now is to motor towards Caledonia.
