Dee and ChucK ventured out on a trip to the Iowa City area last Thursday and Friday. They were accompanied by Bill and Beth Ellen. Sounds like they had a great time. What follows is Dee's account of the trip along with some photos.
Overnight Trip to Hoover Library and Devonian Gorge
Bill, Beth Ellen, ChucK, and Dee "touristed" in the Iowa City area this
past Thursday and Friday, September 26-27.
We toured the Hoover Library in North Liberty on Thursday. We stayed
overnight at the charming Zuber's Hotel in Homestead and enjoyed a tasty
supper that night at the Millhaus Brew Pub in Amana, 6 miles north of
Homestead.
On Friday, we hiked the Devonian Gorge at the Coralville Dam looking for
fossils and learning about the geology of the area. As we wended our way
home, we stopped for lunch at Baxa's Tavern and strolled over the 1897
Sutliff Bridge across the road running past Baxa's.
The weather cooperated beautifully, despite the forecasts earlier in the
week that predicted a chance of rain in the region. Both days started
cool and brisk, but quickly turned sunny and comfortably warm.
I (Dee) had 367 miles on my Kawasaki's trip meter when we returned home.

Bob told them if they found any gold in the Devonian Gorge they had to split it with the rest of the Wednesday Night Riders. No such luck, but still quite an adventure!

Nope, we didn't strike it rich at the Gorge, but we did see fossils, both human and stone. :-)
