After a rainy morning, the skies turned partly sunny, and the temps rose into the low 70's, which meant our Wednesday night ride was on.
Riding in on two wheelers were Jim D and Honey, Jim G & Cathy, Chuckles, Lois, Howard, Larry, and Al. Aboard three wheelers were Roger and Janine (on a "new to them" Spyder), Darrel, Irv, and Bob. David along with Tommy manned the support Jeep.

After departing Casey's at 5:30, we passed through downtown Waukon and then took HWY 76 north past Hanover, Dorchester, and Eitzen. Just outside of Eitzen, we turned west into CR 17, passed by the pretty Wilmington Lutheran Church in the valley and then to HWY 44. After a short jog on 44 through Spring Grove, we took CR 4 heading north again. CR 4 is one of our favorite routes. It offers smooth blacktop and some nice scenery as it skirts the bluffs along the south fork of the Root River. On this route we pass through the metropolis of Black Hammer and avoid the "rush hour" in Yucatan. However, just as we passed through Yucatan, we were pelted by some rain sprinkles, and the pavement was very wet from a shower that had just passed through the area. It made for a rather interesting journey with steam rolling off the warm pavement, and then we were treated to the view of a rainbow to our east.
CR 4 ends at HWY 76, so we turned north again and headed into Houston for a break at the BP Stop.

After our break, we took HWY 16 east on into Hokah. On the way, we slowed for a deer crossing the highway some distance ahead. You always want to slow down even after the deer has crossed because there may be others following. Continuing on 16 we passed through Hokah and right at the famous Hokah Hardware store, we turned south onto CR 18 and cruised down the hill into Brownsville. At Brownsville we journeyed onto HWY 26 and followed it all the way into Lansing. Just outside of Reno, we were treated to another rainbow, but since we were nowhere near it's end, we let someone else find the pot of gold. We did have another deer cross in front of us before we got to New Albin.
In Lansing we made our way through town passing another famous store called Horsefall's Variety. We continued on HWY 9 heading west and then onto Iron Mine Drive and finally Green Valley Drive and on into Green Valley Getaway for eats. I had 120 miles on the trike when pulled her into the shed at home.

HOSPICE RIDE
This Sunday, the 12th, is the Winneshiek Medical Hospice Ride. This is an event that the Wednesday Night Riders have supported from its start. I would encourage everyone in our group to try to make this event. I have an obligation at church on Sunday, so I won't be able to make the breakfast, but I do plan to leave town around 10 AM and get to Decorah in time to register and go on the ride. Here's the scoop.

And finally, I thought you might be proud of this!
