WARMER, BUT STILL PLEASANT/LABOR DAY/COUPLES' TRIP

With the temps in the mid 80's and under partly cloudy skies, 10 Wednesday Night Riders made their way to Casey's this Wednesday.

Bike riders included Jim & Cathy, Chuckles, Lois, Mike, and Lissa.  Aboard three wheelers were Terry, Dave M, and Bob.  Irv roared in with the Vet "support vehicle".

As promised in the previous blog, Bob was going to lead us on the "all roads lead to Steuben" ride, so at 5 we departed Casey's and cruised through the only stop light in Allamakee County onto the Elon Road heading east.

To our amazement, the humidity in the air was not great enough to spoil our views, so we enjoyed the scenery as we turned onto CR X32, aka Waterville Road.  This smooth asphalt stretch took us through Waterville and over to HWY 76.  Turning south on 76, we rolled into Marquette and then onto HWY 18 and scooted across the bridge into Prairie du Chien.  Turning onto Main St. heading north, Bob missed the turn onto Limery Road, so we continued on what is now CR K.  After waiting for a train, we crossed the tracks onto HWY 35 and backtracked south and picked up Limery Road again.  Limery takes us past some ripening apple orchards and up hill to HWY 27.  We followed 27 north to Eastman and then turned onto HWY 179.

HWY 179 is a great 9 mile ride into Steuben!  It is smooth, offers up some great scenery, and some well-banked curves.  After arriving in Steuben, we parked outside of Bob & Lou's Railroad Street Station.

BREAK TIME AT BOB & LOU'S

WE DOUBLE THE POPULATION OF STEUBEN

The air conditioning along with the "warm" reception we received from Bob, made for a very pleasant break.  I've heard that they have a great fish supper on Friday nights, so I hope to return.

After waiting for Chuckles to quit talking and get ready to ride, we departed Steuben on 179 for a ways, and then took CR E on back west to HWY 27.  Many times I had to slow down in order to see the road ahead, because the sun at times was at just the right level to be right in my face and almost blinding me.  We were able to negotiate safely and turned north onto HWY 27.  It was awful nice of the state to repave this stretch of highway for us!

We cruised through Seneca and on into Mt. Sterling where we turned west again onto HWY 171, and down the hill we went to HWY 35.  Taking 35 through Ferryville, we arrived at HWY 82 and turned west crossing on the Blackhawk Bridge.  I noticed that quite a bit of new construction had been done on the new bridge, and the amount of cranes and construction equipment there is phenominal.

After crossing into Lansing, we took HWY 9 back into Waukon, losing Mike, Lissa, Dave and Jim & Cathy along the way.  The rest of us stopped at Uptown for our usual feast.  I had 113 miles on the Wing when I parked her at home.  A little warmer, but still a great ride!

READY FOR SOME ICE CREAM?!

Along with a great ride!  On Labor Day Monday is our annual "Double Dip" Ice Cream Run where we take a ride out of town for a dip (or two) of ice cream and return back to Waukon and WW Dairy for another dip (or two).  The plan is to leave Casey's at 1PM that afternoon.  EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

COUPLES' TRIP

As of now we have six couples ready to roll on the annual Couples' Trip on September 14 & 15.  We are looking to take a train ride and visit a road side attraction filled with metal sculptures.  If you "all of a sudden" think you would still like to go, contact Bob ASAP and he will see what he can do.
