The plan was to cruise through the orchards at Gays Mills to view and smell the apple blossoms.  Since Wisconsin is doing a lot of road construction right now, we had to be careful choosing a route.

We left Casey's at 5:30 under clear skies and 77 degrees.  Taking HWY 9 (Terry E Branstad Memorial Highway) we bounced our way up to Lansing and crossed the Mississippi on the newly painted Blackhawk bridge.  We then took HWY 35 south and turned east up the hill on CR B and motoring through Towerville and Star Valley before arriving at HWY 131 south and on into the Cenex Marketplace in Gays Mills for a break.

After our break we backtracked a little on 131 north to CR X and headed east again.  X took us through Montgomery just in time to miss the rush hour and then onto HWY 61 heading south.  At the intersection of 61 and 171 at Rolling Ground, we turned west on 171 and down through the orchards.  They did not disappoint!  The apple trees were loaded with blossoms and filled the air with that sweet fragrance.  We also saw many crab apple trees in their pink blooms and could smell the lilacs in bloom also.  We followed 171 west through Gays Mills and Mt. Sterling and down the hill to HWY 35 again.  Heading north on 35 we passed through Ferryville.  35 took us north to HWY 82 west and across the Blackhawk bridge again.  Since I refuse to travel on HWY 9 more than once a day, we took the Lansing/Harpers road to the Elon road and followed it west on into Waukon and Gus & Tony's where Joann Gelo joined us for eats.  The ride on the Elon Road was a lot drier than the last time we were out there! I had about 111 miles on the Wing when I pulled into the shed.  WHAT A RIDE!!
..................................................................................................................................................................
This Saturday, the 19th, is our first RTE.  It's our "ALL ROADS LEAD TO STEUBEN" BURGER RUN.  As on the ride sheet, we will be leaving Casey's at 4:30 Saturday afternoon and wind our way into Steuben to Lou's Railroad Street Station for food and drink.  EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
