One of our Wednesday Night Riders and Vietnam veteran Dale took part in an honor flight to Washington DC on Saturday. Jim & Cathy and Larry & Joann went up to LaCrosse to welcome him home. Here's what Jim had to say along with some photos.
We went up to welcome the Honor Flight no. 21 out of LaCrosse with Dale
on it back. They had some delays, first lightning delayed departure
from DC , then as they started to taxi the wheel chairs in baggage
shifted. They had to go back to the terminal and reload all the chairs
properly. First time I've heard that! Dale said something about having
to take fuel out before they opened the hatch. There are concerns of
sparking. It ended up being about midnight when they got back to LaCrosse.
WELCOME HOME, DALE, AND THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!!
Yesterday, Mothers' Day, turned out to be nowhere near as nice a day as our "hippy dippy" weathermen predicted. However, the Gelo's and the Rotach's did venture up to Dorchester for the Wing's Mothers' Day buffet. Jim & Cathy rode their Wing and went for a ride afterwards while Bob & Julie took the pickup and returned home afterwards. We had a good time and good food there. It still amazes me that with all of the technical equipment that weathermen have now how they can miss a forecast by 15 degrees!
Unless the weathermen are wrong again, which is a real possibility, Wednesday is supposed to be sunny and close to 80 degrees. So it looks like we may be able to ride again on Wednesday night. I plan to make a journey through the apple orchards near Gays Mills to enjoy the apple blossoms.
SEE YOU THEN.
