FROM 21 TO FIVE

What a difference in a few degrees of temperature
makes!  Last week we had 21 WNR in a convoy to Arlington.  This week 5 show up at Casey's.  Admittedly the northwest wind made it somewhat unpleasant, but the temps were in the mid sixties as we pulled out of Casey's and actually reached 72 as we passed by the bank thermometer on Main St.

The fivesome consisted of Jim & his daughter, Stephanie, Darron, Al, and Bob (because of foul weather up north, Dennis & Bob postponed their fishing trip until next week).

STEPHANIE COMES ALL THE WAY FROM TEXAS FOR OUR RIDE
We left Casey's and headed north on HWY 76 and then headed east on Iowa River Drive over to HWY 26.  After a short jog on 26 at the edge of New Albin, we turned back west on Pool Hill Road, passed through Eitzen, and back onto HWY 76 north.  Again after another short jog we turned back west on CR 27 and cruised on into Spring Grove for a break at Quick Trip.

NICE AND WARM OUT OF THE WIND
Since we were able to avoid most of the gusty winds, we decided to expand the ride and head back east on HWY 44 into Caledonia. Passing through Caledonia we took CR 5 heading east.  Cr 5 eventually turned into the infamous but scenic CR 14 eastbound back down to the river and HWY 26 again.  26 south took us back through New Albin and on into Lansing.  Since we still had time, we decided to avoid the teeth rattling HWY 9 and took the Lansing/Harpers Road north the Elon Road and followed it into the sun and back into Waukon.  I had 116 miles on the Wing when I put her to bed.  I would call tonight's ride a gusty but enjoyable trip.  Plenty of sunshine and really green scenery and good-looking crops in the fields.  Also, no deer were spotted.

For those of you who couldn't make it Wednesday, or even for those who did, I plan to ride again on Sunday, possibly making a trip up to Rushford for a cone.  If Sunday turns out as nice as predicted, I plan to leave Casey's at 1 PM Sunday afternoon.

The following Saturday, the 20th, is another RTE to Norwegian Hollow Hideaway in Purdy, WI (That's Norwegian for pretty).  It's been a while since we've been there, so I thought we should check it out again.  It's always a scenic journey over there.  That ride is scheduled to leave Casey's at 4 PM that Saturday afternoon.  EVERYONE WELCOME!

You definitely will need a new leader this coming Wednesday.  Dennis & Bob are going to Boulder Junction to hammer the small mouth bass.  We plan to leave early Monday morning and return sometime on Friday.

In the meantime--Keep them wheels vertical!
